Question 49 (Textile Engineering & Fibre Science)

A two ply yarn has a resultant count of 18s Ne. Assuming 10% twist contraction during ply twisting the yarn count (Ne) of single yarns used for ply twisting was

(A)32
(B)36
(C)40
(D)44
[Show Answer]

Option C is correct.
Resultant count of two ply yarn=18s Ne

Twist contraction=10%

Count of single yarn=?

Let, the ply yarn count before twiting=x

Then,

x-x.10%=18

0.9 x =18

x=20s Ne

Now,
Let,single count used for doubling=N

\frac{1}{20}=\frac{1}{N}+\frac{1}{N}

\frac{1}{20}=\frac{2}{N}

N=40s Ne (Ans)
