Question 16 (Textile Engineering & Fibre Science)

For a twofold increase in reed width, the picking power of a shuttle loom needs to be increase by

(A)2 times
(B)4 times
(C)8 times
(D)16 times
[Show Answer]

Option B

Because picking power is directly proportional to the square of the reed width.

Let, picking power of loom=p

Reed width=R

Here, R2=2R1

\frac{p_1}{p_2}=\frac{R_1^2}{R_2^2}

\frac{p_1}{p_2}=\frac{R_1^2}{2 \times R_1^2}

\frac{p_1}{p_2}=\frac{1}{4}

p_2=4 \times p_1

i.e.,picking power of the shuttle loom is increased by 4 times
