Question 40 (Textile Engineering & Fibre Science)

A carded web of 30 g/m2 and 1 m width is converted into a batt of 300 g/m2 and 2.5 m width by a cross lapper. The card delivers the web at 20 m/min. The batt out of the cross lapper approximately at the speed (m/min) of

(A)1
(B)2.5
(C)5
(D)8
[Show Answer]

Option A is correct.

Given-

Weight of carded web=30g/m2

Width of carded web=1 m

Weight of batt=300 g/m2

Width of batt=2.5m

Delivery rate of card web=20 m/min

The batt speed=?

The number of layers=Weight of batt/Weight of carded web

The number of layers=300/30

The number of layers=10

Now,

Delivery rate of card web x Width of carded web=The number of layers x The batt speed x Width of batt

20 x 1=10 x The batt speed x 2.5

The batt speed =20/25

The batt speed =0.909

The batt speed approximately=1 m/min (Ans)
