Question 65 (Textile Engineering & Fibre Science)

If the mass of fibre presented to the doffer per revolution of cylinder is 3.3gm, the transfer coefficient of the carding machine will be approximately

(A)0.10
(B)0.15
(C)0.20
(D)0.25
[Show Answer]

Carding machine efficiency=90%

Cylinder radius=0.63m

Surface speed of cylinder=1600 m/min

Doffer surface speed=40 m/min

Production rate=10.8 kg/h

=10.8 x 1000/60 g/min

=180 g/min

Mass of fibre presented to the doffer per revolution of cylinder=3.3 gm

The transfer coefficient of the carding machine=?

Surface speed of the cylinder=1600 m/min

\pi \times D \times N=1600

3.14 \times 2 \times 0.63 \times N=1600

3.14 \times 2 \times 0.63 \times N=1600

3.96 \times N=1600

N=\frac{1600}{3.96}

N=\frac{1600}{3.96}

Cylinder revolution speed(N)=404 rpm

Cylinder mass transfer per revolution=Mass of fibre presented to the doffer per revolution of cylinder x Cylinder revolution speed(N)

Cylinder mass transfer per revolution=3.3 gm x 404 rpm

Cylinder mass transfer per revolution=1212 g/min

Transfer coefficient=Production rate/Cylinder mass transfer per revolution

Transfer coefficient=180/1212

Transfer coefficient=0.14 (Ans)
