Question70 (Textile Engineering & Fibre Science)

Moisture regain of wool, silk and viscose at 65% RH are 17%, 11% and 11% respectively. Weight of water in 100g of fabric at 65% RH having 50% wool, 25% silk and 25% viscose would be approximately

(A)6.66 g
(B)9.99 g
(C)12.22 g
(D)15.55 g
[Show Answer]

Option C is correct.

Moisture regain of wool(M.R.wool)=17%

Moisture regain of silk(M.R.silk)=11%

Moisture regain of viscose(M.R.visocse)=11%

Weight of fabric=100 g

Wool%=50%

Silk%=25%

Viscose%=25%

Weight of water=?

Total moisture regain%=(M.R.wool x Wool% + M.R.silk x Silk% + M.R.visocse x Viscose%)/( Wool% + Silk% + Viscose%)

Total moisture regain%=(17 x 50 + 11 x 25 + 11 x 25)/( 50+ 25 + 25)

Total moisture regain%=(850 + 275 + 275)/( 100)

Total moisture regain%=1400/100

Total moisture regain%=14

By formula-

Total moisture regain%=Weight of water(W) x 100/ oven dry weight of fabric(D)

14=W x 100/ D

We know-

Weight of fabric=W+D

100=W+D

D=100-W

14=W x 100/ (100-W)

0.14=W/(100-W)

0.14(100-W)=W

14-0.14W=W

14=1.14W

W=14/1.14

W=12.28

Hence, weight of water(W)=12.28 gm (Ans)
