GATE (TF) Textile 2007 Question Paper Solution | GATE/2007/TF/81

In a jacquard harness system, the vertical distance between the bottom end of the central hook and the comber board is 140 cm

Question 81 (Textile Engineering & Fibre Science)

If the required shed depth of this machine is 7 cm, the percentage loss in shed depth at the same side harness operated by the same hook would be approximately

(A)13.3
(B)12.3
(C)11.3
(D)10.3
[Show Answer]

Option C is correct.
Previous-
Vertical distance between bottom end of the central hook and comber board(O)=140 cm

Distance of an end operated by harness card from centre(A)=75 cm

By formula-

H^2=A^2+O^2

H^2=75^2+140^2

H=\sqrt(75^2+140^2)

H=\sqrt(5625+19600)

H=\sqrt(25225)

Length of harness cord(H)=158.8 cm

Now,
If required shed depth of the machine(L)=7 cm

The percentage loss in shed depth at the same side harness operated by the same hook=?

So, Vertical distance between bottom end of the central hook and comber board(O’)=140+7
O’=147 cm

Now,

H'^2=A^2+O'^2

H'^2=75^2+147^2

H’=165.03 cm

Calculated Shed depth(L’)=H’-H
=165.03-158.8
L’=6.23 cm

% loss in shed depth at the same side=(L-L’) x 100/L

% loss in shed depth at the same side=(7-6.23) x 100/7

% loss in shed depth at the same side=0.77 x 100/7

% loss in shed depth at the same side=11 (Ans)
