Question 29 (Textile Engineering & Fibre Science)

A garment factory manufactures shirts. From the past history, it is known that 8 out of 100 collars and 5 out of 100 sleeves are defective. The probability that the assembled shirt will NOT have either of these defects is ______________________

[Show Answer]

Probability that 8 out of 100 collars sleeves are defective(P1)=8/100=0.08
Probability that 5 out of 100 collars sleeves are defective(P2)=5/100=0.05

The probability that the assembled shirt will NOT have either of these defects=(1-P1) x (1-P2)
=(1-0.08) x (1-0.05)
=0.92 x 0.95
=0.874 (Ans)
