Question 28 (Textile Engineering & Fibre Science)

On twisting, the denier of a multifilament yarn consisting of 300 filament of 3 denier each becomes 1100. If 11 km of untwisted filament yarn is twisted, its length in km will be _________________

Answer / Solution

Given in the question
Number of filaments=300
Denier of each filament=3 denier
Total denier=3*300
=900

Denier of multifilaments yarn=1100

If 11 km of untwisted filament yarn is twisted, then its lengths will be=?

Calculations
If untwisted length is being twisted ,then there will be some contraction in the length.

Twisted length of 11 km=(11-twist contraction)

Denier=1100

i.e., 1100 gm weight have=9000 meter length

Then, 1 gm weight have=9000/1100

900gm weight have=9000*900/1100

=81000/11 meter length

Twist contraction=(9000-(81000/11))/9000
=2
Twisted length=11-2
Twisted length=9 km (Answer)
