Question 48 (Textile Engineering & Fibre Science)

A cotton yarn with 5% breaking elongation needs to be tested for breaking strength in a tensile tester at 500 mm gauge length. The clamp speed (mm/min) required to break the specimen in 20s is __74.90 : 75.10__.

[Show Answer]

Write Here

Given in the question-
Breaking elongation(e)=5%

Gauge length(l)=500 mm

Breaking time(t)=20 seconds
=20/60 min
t=0.33 min

The clamp speed(v,mm/min)=?

Calculation:

Extension length(L)=Gauge length x Breaking elongation%/100

Extension length(L)=500 x 5/100
L=25 mm

By formula:

Clamp speed(v)=Extension length(L)/breaking time(t)

Clamp speed(v)=25/0.33333

Clamp speed(v)=75.0 (Answer)
