Question 47 (Textile Engineering & Fibre Science)

While measuring tensile properties using Stelometer at 3.2 mm gauge length, a cotton fibre bundle of 15 mm length and 4.5 mg weight register a breaking load of 6kg. The bundle tenacity (g/tex) is __19.9 to 20.1__.

[Show Answer]

Write Here

Given in the question
Gauge length=3.2 mm

Cotton fibre bundle length=15mm
=15×10-3 m

Cotton bundle weight=4.5 mg
=4.5×10-3 g

Breaking load=6 kg
=6000 gm

Bundle tenacity=?

By unitary rule:

Cotton fibre length is 15×10-3 meter and weight is 4.5x 10-3 gm

i.e. 15×10-3 mtr length cotton bundle have=4.5x 10-3 gm weight

Then, 1 mtr have….”…………………………………=4.5x 10-3/15×10-3

So, 1000 mtr…..”……………………………………….=(4.5x 10-3/15×10-3)*1000

=300

i.e., Tex =300 (gm/1000mtr)

Formula:

Tenacity=Breaking load(g)/linear density(tex)

Tenacity(g/tex)=6000/300

Tenacity(g/tex)=20 (Answer)
