Question 45 (Textile Technology & Fibre Science)

A monofilament gets extruded at a speed of 10 m/min from a spinneret of 0.2 mm diameter. In order to ensure a spin draw ratio of 11, the first godet roller with a diameter of 70 cm has to rotate with an angular velocity (rpm) of (rounded off to nearest integer) _.

[Show Answer]

Given in the question-
Monofilament extrusion speed(V_o)=10 m/min

Dia of spinnerate(D_o)=0.2 mm

Spin draw ratio=11

Diameter of first godet roller=70 cm
D_L=0.7 meter
Angular velocity of godet roller(rpm, N_L)=?

Let ,the speed of godet roller=V_L

By formula:

Spin draw ratio=\frac{V_L}{V_o}

11=\frac{V_L}{10}

V_L=11\times 10

V_L=110 m/min

\pi \times D_L \times N_L=110

\frac{22}{7} \times 0.7 \times N_L=110

N_L=50 rpm (Ans)

Frequently Asked Questions | FAQs

What is monofilament ?

Monofilament is a single, continuous strand of material, typically made from synthetic fibers like nylon, polyester, or polypropylene. Monofilament is used in a variety of applications, including the manufacture of fishing line, surgical sutures, and dental floss. In fishing, monofilament is valued for its strength, sensitivity, and low visibility underwater. In the medical and dental fields, monofilament is used for its strength, flexibility, and non-reactivity with tissues. Monofilament is also used in other applications where a strong, continuous strand of material is required, such as in the production of textiles, ropes, and industrial filtration systems.
