Question 12 (Textile Technology & Fibre Science)

Q.12The process for removal of protruding fibres from fabric surface is
(A)Desizing
(B)Scouring
(C)Souring
(D)Singeing
[Show Answer]

write here

Singeing is the process by which protruding/projecting fibres are removes from the fabric by burning./heat to increase the smoothness of the fabric is called singeing.
Desizing is the process by which sizing materials(starch) is removed from the fabric.
Scouring is the process by which the natural impurities(oil, wax, fat etc) and added impurites(dirt, dust) are removed from the fabric. It i done by strong NaOH.
Souring is the process by which alkalis are removed from fabric with dilute acid solution.

Frequently Asked Questions | FAQs

What are protruding fibres ?

Protruding fibers are fibers that extend beyond the surface of a fabric. These fibers can cause the fabric to feel rough or prickly, and can also affect the appearance of the fabric. Protruding fibers can occur during the spinning, weaving or finishing processes of fabric production.

What is desizing in dyeing ?

Desizing is a process in dyeing that involves removing the sizing or the starch-like substance that is applied to yarns or fabrics to improve their strength and stiffness during weaving. Desizing is necessary because sizing can interfere with the dyeing process and cause uneven dye uptake, resulting in poor color quality.

What does scouring mean ?

Scouring is the process of removing impurities, such as natural oils, waxes, and dirt, from raw fibers or fabrics before dyeing or finishing. Scouring can be done using chemicals, such as alkalis or detergents, and sometimes at high temperatures.

What is singeing used for ?

Singeing is a process used to remove protruding fibers from the surface of a fabric by passing the fabric over an open flame or a hot metal plate. The heat burns off the protruding fibers, leaving a smoother surface. Singeing can improve the appearance and performance of a fabric by reducing pilling and fuzziness, enhancing the brightness and clarity of colors, and increasing the smoothness and softness of the fabric.
