Question 52 (Textile Technology & Fibre Science)

A woven fabric with areal density of 300 g/m2 is tested by strip tensile test method, keeping the specimen width as 5 cm and gauge length as 25 cm. If the breaking load is 900 N, the tenacity (cN/tex) of the fabric is
__6__.

Given:

Areal density of woven fabric=300 g/m2
Specimen width=5 cm = 5X10-2 m
Breaking load=900 N
Tenacity(cN/tex)=?

Now,
g/m =300x5x10-2
gram/meter =15 ,

i.e 1 meter have =15 gm ,
So, 1000 meter have =15*1000

Tex=15000
(Tex is mass in gm of 1000 meter length=gm/1000 meter)

Now by formula:

Tenacity=\frac{Breaking \: load}{tenacity}

Tenacity=\frac{900}{15000} \frac{N}{tex}

Tenacity=\frac{900*100}{15000} \frac{cN}{tex}

Tenacity=\frac{90000}{15000} \frac{cN}{tex}

Tenacity=6 \frac{cN}{tex} (Answer)
