1. National Textile Corporation (NTC) Limited

National Textile Corporation Limited, (NTC) is a schedule “A” public sector company under the ambit of Ministry of Textile, Government of India, engaged in production of yarn and fabric through its 23 mills in operation, located all over India with 8.2 lac spindles and 408 looms producing around 550 lac kgs of yarn and 200 lac meters of fabric per annum. NTC also manufactures garments through its JV Companies.

In addition National Textile Corporation has well established retail network throughout the country with its 85 retail stores.

National Textile Corporation was established in 1968 to look after the functioning of 119 sick textile mills acquired through three Nationalisation Acts. The mills which were not in a position to revive have been closed subsequently with surplus man power given MVRS and 23 mills revived to the extent possible. The current employee strength is around 7800.

NTC is on threshold of up-grading its technology in the operating mills and is looking forward to modernisation, expansion, product diversification etc. Venturing in to Technical Textiles – the sunrise sector of the future, transformation of its retail marketing outlets and enhancement of its Brand image are some of important current agenda of corporation.

It was established in the year 1958, as “Indian Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd” with the twin objective of (i) export promotion and (ii) trade development of handicraft and handloom products. In the Year 1962, it was renamed as “The Handicrafts & Handlooms Exports Corporation of India Limited”.

3. National Handloom Development Corporation (NHDC) Ltd.

National Handloom Development Corporation Limited (NHDC) was set up in February, 1983 by the Government of India as a public sector undertaking under the ambit of Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India in pursuance of the imperative need for a national level agency to assist the speedy development of the handloom sector with the help of 07 Regional Offices and 32 Branch offices.

Corporation is coordinating all actions covering the procurement and supply of inputs at reasonable prices, augmenting the marketing efforts of state handloom agencies and initiating developmental activities for upgrading the technology in the handloom sector and improving productivity.

4. Cotton Corporation of India (CCI)

A Friend to Cotton Farmer & A Dependable Supplier of Cotton to the Textile Industry.
CCI was established on 31st July 1970 under the administrative control of Ministry of Textiles, Government of India as a Public Sector Undertaking under the Companies Act 1956.

In the initial period of setting up, as the only public sector undertaking in the field of marketing of cotton, CCI played a role of a canalizing agency for imports of cotton and purchase of raw cotton for giving necessary price support to enterprising cultivators and also for procuring raw cotton for textile mills.

The role and function of CCI continued to enlarge with the changing cotton scenario in the country. Now, the major role of the CCI is to undertake price support operations, whenever the market prices of kapas fall below the minimum support prices (MSP) announced by Govt. of India, without any quantitative limit. Besides MSP operations, to fulfil the raw material requirement of the domestic textile industry particularly for lean season, CCI undertakes commercial purchase operations.

5. Central Cottage Industries Corporation of India Ltd. (CCIC)

Central Cottage Industries Emporium was established in the year 1952 under the management of Indian Cooperative Union and was later on taken over by Central Cottage Industries Association in 1964 and was incorporated as Central Cottage Industries Corporation of India Ltd. (CCIC) on February 4, 1976. CCIC is a Public Sector Undertaking under Ministry of Textiles. The main objective of CCIC is to produce, procure and sell quality handicraft and handloom products and to develop markets for these products in India and abroad. Corporation is having showrooms at Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, Patna, Secunderabad and Varanasi.

6. The British India Corporation Limited (BIC)

The British India Corporation Ltd. (BIC) was incorporated as a Public Limited Company on February 24, 1920. It was taken over by the Government of India on 11th June, 1981 under the British India Corporation Ltd. (acquisition of shares) Ordinance. The BIC Limited, Kanpur owns and manages two woolen mills viz (1) Cawnpore Woollen Mills Branch, Kanpur (2) New Egerton Woollen Mills Branch, Dhariwal. The products of these two mills are popularly known by the Brand names of “Lalimli” & “Dhariwal” respectively. These units manufacture Woollen/Blended Suiting, Tweeds, Uniform Cloth, Lohis, Shawls, Rugs, Blankets etc. Based on the financial position, the B.I.C. Limited was referred to BIFR in 1991 and was declared as a Sick Company in 1992. 

7. Jute Corporation of India (JCI) Ltd

The Jute Corporation of India Limited (JCI) was incorporated by the Government of India in 1971 as a price support agency with a clear mandate for the procurement of raw jute / mesta without any quantitative limit form the growers at the minimum support price (MSP) declared each year by the Government of India based on recommendations made by Commission for Agricultural Cost & Price (CACP).

8. National Jute Manufactures Corporation Ltd
NJMC } National Jute Manufacturers Corporation Limited

The management of six sick private sector Jute manufacturing companies was taken over by the Central Government under Clause (a) of sub-section (1) of Section 18 AA of the Industries (Development and Regulation) Act, 1956 and thereafter the ownership of these companies was vested on the Central Government through enabling legislation of these, the National Jute Mill was nationalized under the National Company Limited (Acquisition and transfer of Undertakings) Act, 1980. The remaining five companies were nationalized under the Jute Companies (Nationalization) Act, 1980. The ownership of these nationalized companies was vested on NJMC Ltd.

9. Birds Jute & Exports Ltd. (BJEL)

BJEL is a subsidiary of NJMC Birds Jute & Exports Ltd (BJEL) a processing unit of Jute fabric was a subsidiary of Bird & Co. established in 1904. Bharat Process & Mechanical Engineers Ltd.( BPMEL) under the Ministry of Heavy Industry took over the assets on nationalization in 1980 and became a holder of 58.94% of BJEL’s equity shares. Thereafter the GoI decided to transfer shares of BJEL to NJMC in 1986. BJEL operated as a processing unit for bleaching, dyeing & printing of jute and blended fabrics. It was declared sick by BIFR u/s 3(1)(0) of Sick Industrial Companies (Special Provisions) Act, 1985 (SICA) in the year 1999 due to continuous losses and negative net worth. Of late IDBI Bank Ltd. was appointed as operating agency for preparation Rehabilitation Scheme under section 17(3) of the said Act.
